I grew up in Clarksville, Tennessee, but I spent the first five years of my life in Greenville, South Carolina. In May of 2024, after graduating from Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary, I was assigned to be the pastor of Hope Lutheran Church in Irmo, SC. Pastors who graduate from our Seminary are open to moving anywhere in the country, but my wife and I were pretty excited to be headed back to the South. I'm married to Emily, who works as a first-grade teacher in Irmo. She's a constant source of joy for me and for the little ones she teaches. Emily and I spend our free time playing in softball and volleyball leagues, running, getting outdoors, exploring the Columbia area, cooking, and finding new places to eat. I love sports of all varieties, especially football, which I played through college. I also love meeting new people, and if you're reading this, I hope to get the chance to meet you sometime soon!
My education to be a pastor included a four-year degree in pastoral studies from Martin Luther College, and a four-year Master of Divinity from Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary. My whole life, I had questions about my faith, so attending a small Christian college gave me the chance to seek those answers for myself. At Martin Luther College, I dug into God's Word on a much deeper level, with classes focusing on Christian doctrine and specific books of the Bible. I also learned the biblical languages of Greek and Hebrew, which deepened my trust in the reliability of the Bible. After graduating, I continued learning at Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary, where every class is faith-focused and ministry-relevant; every professor is also a pastor, meaning they are both experts in their fields and incredibly approachable to students. Every single book of the Bible receives in-depth study. The easygoing classroom environments allowed me to ask all my questions and to discuss them with my peers. I truly believe I received a world-class education at the Seminary—not just in academic teachings, but in real-life lessons that are relevant to everyone. The third year of the Seminary program is an intern year under a veteran pastor, and I spent mine at a church startup in Reno, NV. My time with the people in Reno, many of whom were new Christians, ultimately convinced me that a career as a pastor was how I wanted to serve God and help people. Not everyone has the opportunity to study the Bible for eight years, so it's my goal to share what I've been given so that as many people as possible can know the good news of what Jesus means for us and for our world.
